President calls for durable security, peace for all

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Saturday underlined the need for materialization of durable security and peace for all.
He made the remarks while addressing the 1st International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation which started this morning with the participation of officials from some 60 world countries.
He regretted that the United Nations and the Security Council have not been able to establish durable security on the international relations in the past 60 years.
Wars, aggressions, occupation, threats, nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction and expansionist policies of certain countries have made the prospect of regional and international security as unclear and ambiguous, he added.
The first nuclear weapon was manufactured and used by the United States, he said, adding that such a move encouraged other states to make such weapons.
There are currently over 20,000 nuclear warheads throughout the world half of which are located in the US, President Ahmadinejad said, regretting that the UN Security Council has been turned to a tool for materializing policies of certain bullying powers. The international body has not been able to safeguard national security and rights of any world country, he added.
Criticizing the performance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he said the UN nuclear watchdog, instead of disarming those countries possessing nuclear weapons, has been turned to a tool for exerting pressure on those countries which have no nuclear weapons.
The Zionist regime which has over 200 nuclear warheads and has waged several wars in the region is fully supported by Washington and its allies, the Iranian president said.
This is while other states are prevented from making peaceful use of nuclear energy, he reiterated.
Expecting those countries which have the veto right and are big sellers of weapons in the world to establish security and to disarm other states is illogical, he said, underlining the need for establishment of an independent international group for planning and supervising over the nuclear disarmament.
The group should suspend membership of those countries possessing, using and threatening use of nuclear weapons at the IAEA and its Board of Governors, the president advised.
He reiterated that the US government, in particular, which used weapons made of nuclear waste during the Iraq war causing various refractory diseases in that occupied country as well as the entire region, should not be a member of the IAEA Board of Governors.
President Ahmadinejad further called for reviewing the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by independent countries and those states not having nuclear weapons.
He also underscored the need for restructuring of the Security Council.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a country which is making use of peaceful nuclear energy through efforts by domestic scientists, is ready to provide all IAEA members with its useful experiences, he said, adding that Tehran is also ready for constructive participation in the world disarmament management.
He also voiced the Islamic Republic’s readiness to continue cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog within the framework of its rules and regulations.
President Ahmadinejad concluded by hoping that the motto of “ nuclear energy for all, nuclear weapons for no one” would be materialized.
