Police promotes two officers, dismissed five others

Two commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police. The Police Service Commission approved promotion at its 15th plenary meeting held in Abuja

The officers promoted to the rank of AIGs are Messrs Mohammed Zarewa and Ibrahim Machi. The commission also approved the elevation of an Inspector to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).

Also as part of its disciplinary measure that would serve as deterrent to others, the commission dismissed five Assistant Superintendents of Police “for acts that are inimical to Police Force, while two of them were recommended for legal prosecution due to the nature of their offences.”

In the statement yesterday, the commission also approved the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, while sixteen other officers were reprimanded for disciplinary offences. They include: Commissioner of Police Mr. Morenike John, Assistant Commissioners of Police Alechenu John, Bassey Emah, Ujagbor Peter and Ogbusua A. Oleh.

The commission equally approved that five Superior Police Officers be reduced in rank for offences against police discipline. Furthermore, the commission awarded letters of Advice to seven superior Police officers for various offences that infringed on police discipline.

The commission after its deliberations exonerated six superior officers of the allegations of infringement against police discipline, one of whom is Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mark Njoku.

In a statement signed by Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe on behalf of the Chairman Police Service Commission, Mr. Parry Osayande,, the commission stated that towards the effective discharge of its constitutional mandate to the people of Nigeria, it arrived at far-reaching promotional, disciplinary and general service decisions that are geared toward the realization of its primary mandate of safety of lives and property of the entire citizenry irrespective of where they reside.
