Tehran, May 4, IRNA – Proposals made by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the NPT Review Conference at the United Nations in New York set precedent for the international community's resolve to uphold Non-Proliferation Treaty and get rid of nuclear weapons.

Hossein Ebrahimi, a member of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy said that the proposals were consistent with Tehran International Conference on NPT and Disarmament held in April.

“We are opposed to nuclear weapons and the Iranian president's presence at the conference was in the interest of Iran,” he noted.

Most of the countries support his address in the UN, he said.

In the meantime, a member of Majlis Commission on National Policy and Councilors Affairs said that Ahmadinejad’s statement at the US were a global demand.

Seyed Javad Abtahi told IRNA Tuesday that the president's remarks once again indicated that Iran underlines non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world.

NPT has turned into an ineffective treaty, he complained, noting that the US and Israel are possessing nuclear weapons.

Iran will take part at all the international conferences to express its viewpoints, Abtahi said.

Another lawmaker also described Ahmadineajd’s statements as very effective and said that more than 150 countries welcomed his proposals.

Avaz Heidarpour added that his 11 proposals were the outcome of Tehran Disarmament Conference and they should be implemented.

Isfahan MP also said that Ahmadinejad’s statements at the UN featured demands of all the independent countries.

Stating that the United Nations organizations are dominated by the US and the Zionist regime, Mohammad Karim Shahrzad said that if the situation continues, injustice, terrorism and insecurity will prevail over the world.
