Teachers Day observed

Tehran, May 2, IRNA – May 2 is observed as Teachers Day in Iran every year to pay tribute to their contribution to the society.

Teaching is a sacred job and teachers are leading the humanity to enlightenment.

This day also marks martyrdom anniversary of Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari (1920-1979), an Iranian scholar, cleric, University lecturer, and politician.

Motahhari is considered among the influential figures and ideologues of the Islamic Republic.

Motahhari was a student of Ayatollah Khomeini during the deposed Shah's reign and formed the Council of Revolution of Iran upon the order of Imam Khomeini.

Morteza Motahhari attended the Qom Seminary from 1944-1952, and then joined the University of Tehran, where he taught philosophy for 22 years.

Motahhari was assassinated on May 12, 1979.

He has written many books some of which include ‘Monotheism’, ‘Divine Justice’, ‘Perfect Human’ and ‘Bist Goftar’ (a selection of 20 articles of Motahari)
