Tehran, April 11, IRNA – Three Somalian pirates were disarmed and arrested by Iranian seamen who have later handed them over to Iran’s Coast Guard, it was reported Sunday.

Commander of Iran’s Coast Guard Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaqari told IRNA that the three were part of a 16-member group of the Somalian pirates who had captured Iranian sailors on their fishing boat in early days of the new Iranian year (started on March 21) .

Heading towards Somalian waters, the pirates left their captives alone with three of their accomplices when they saw a bigger ship on their way and tempted to go and hijack it.

After being alone with three pirates, the Iranian seamen have succeeded to disarm them in a battle which resulted in the death of one of the pirates, said the commander.

He added that the Iranian captives turned into captors headed then to the Iranian waters with the two remaining Somalian pirates and have finally handed them over to the Iranian coast police after arriving in the Iranian territorial waters on April 10.
