Iran’s 1st medium-range air defense missile system completed

Tehran, April 11, IRNA -- Minister of Defense Ahmad Vahidi inaugurated Iran’s first advanced medium-range air defense missile system in a ceremony held on Sunday.

The system, called ‘Mersad’ (Ambush), would hit any modern aircraft flying in low or medium altitudes, said the minister speaking in the ceremony.

He added that the new system is more advanced than the US-made Hawk missile and equipped with advanced radar surveillance as well as various complicated software and hardware system.

Vahidi added that the new system was made based on digital designs prepared by skilled Iranian experts who enjoyed high level of commitment, innovation and creativity.

He added that Mersad was manufactured by experts of Iran’s aerospace industries cooperating with domestic academic centers.

According to the minister, Mersad’s mass production has already started in Iran’s defense ministry’s industries and the first batch will be delivered to Iran's Armed Forces during the current Iranian year (started on March 21).

He said manufactuing of the new system as one of the most significant achievements of the Iranian experts.
