ATHENS, March 10 (Xinhua) -- A representative of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi held talks with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis here Thursday morning, but no details were released on what was discussed.

The meeting with Mohamed Tahir Siala was held as the EU closely follows the developing crisis as government and rebels battle for control of the North African country.

Greek Foreign Ministry officials announced the meeting but said no statements would be made after the talks and there was no official information on how the Libyan envoy arrived in Athens.

On Wednesday, media reports said Gaddafi sent three aircraft with envoys to Egypt and two European countries, including Greece. Greek government sources rejected claim but confirmed an aircraft with a Gaddafi representative onboard passed through Greek airspace enroute to Cairo.

Thursday's talks in Athens took place in full coordination with EU foreign policy head Catherine Ashton, the Greek Foreign Ministry statement said, ahead of a special meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Affairs later Thursday in Brussels.

According to Greek media reports, a Libyan representative held a similar unofficial meeting Wednesday with Portuguese Foreign Minister Luis Amado in Lisbon.

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou also held a telephone conversation Tuesday night with Gaddafi. According to unconfirmed media reports, the Libyan leader warned Europe not to intervene in the Libyan crisis.
