Abuja — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked the Action Congress (AC), to mind its business and also upbraided the AC for misunderstanding the PDP's position over the appointment of Prof. Attahiru Jega as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

And in a volte face over its statement allegedly credited to President Goodluck Jonathan on the appointment of Jega, the PDP said it has confidence on the president to deliver on his avowed commitment to free and fair polls.

"We wish to restate here that the PDP has absolute confidence in the determination of President Jonathan to institute a credible electoral process that will win the hearts of all Nigerians. It is up to the AC to put its house in order if they are to be taken seriously by Nigerians. Propaganda alone will not win elections in 2011," the PDP said.

A statement by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Ahmed Alkali said, "For the avoidance of doubt, PDP did not and will not upbraid our President and leader.

It is uncharitable for AC to abandon the culture of decency in political engagement."

It blamed AC and its desperation to make the headlines and confuse issues, adding, "AC has now taken the extra and unusual step of putting words into our mouth with the objective of causing division and disharmony within the party."

Alkali said "Such banal and vile propaganda have no place in the current political environment where the PDP and Nigerians are more concerned with cooperating with, and supporting the President in his avowed mission to ensure an acceptable electoral system."
