Kenya's Ambassador to South Africa Catherine Mwangi has affirmed that Kenyans seeking travel to Pretoria will no longer need a Visa from January 1, 2023.

“The bold and timely move to a Visa-free regime between the two brotherly countries is a concrete demonstration of the deep bonds of friendship and commitment to nurture closer ties,” said Mwangi in a Statement.

The Visa free regime was announced on November 9, 2022 when South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held bilateral talks with his host President William Ruto.

“The conclusion of the longstanding negotiations on the Visa exemptions further reflects conscious efforts and political goodwill by leaders of our two countries to eliminate any barriers to building greater business, cultural and communal relationships,” Mwangi said.

“I therefore commend our two presidents for the visionary leadership and the commitment to a borderless continent.”

During the November 2022 visit, Kenya and South Africa signed three MoUs and one agreement on cooperation on the field of correctional services, cooperation in the field of Housing and Human Settlement.

The others were cooperation between the Kenya School of Government and the South Africa National School of Government and an agreement on Audio Visual Co-production.

“I look forward to deepening the new chapter of engagement with the South African people under the Visa-free regime,” the ambassador said.
