The Intl. Quds Day was commemorated at Iranian Embassy in Tunisia on Friday with participation of some 300 diplomats and religious and cultural figures including Tunisian scholar Muhammad al-Tijani.

The ceremony held by Iranian Embassy in Tunisia and in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the Embassy, was attended by Iranian Ambassador Mostafa Boroujerdi, Cultural attaché Asadi Movahed, prominent member of Tunisia’s Ennahda Movement and member of parliament Meherzia Labidi and a number of other scientific and cultural figures who delivered speeches and recited poetry in solidarity with Palestinians.

“The current crises in the Middle East and the moves by Takfiri terrorist groups who have financial and moral support of certain regional governments have not been able to marginalize the Resistance Movement, although some countries in the region are seeking to normalize relations with the Zionist regime,” Ambassador Boroujerdi said during the ceremony.

He further called on international organizations to perform their duties against the moves by the occupying regime of Israel, and in regard to the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland and the establishment of a Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

“Palestine is a common concern that has brought Iran and Tunisia’s positions closer together,” he said.

Meherzia Labidi, addressing the participants, said ‘we all have Palestine as our priority, regardless of our religion and beliefs, and all Muslims must put aside any differences and focus all their attention on Palestine.”

“The Zionist regime is constantly making efforts to Judaize Jerusalem and force the actual inhabitants of Jerusalem out of the city, therefore Muslims must take measures against this gradual transformation by the use of legal instruments in the United Nations,” she stressed.

At the end of the ceremony, a number of young Tunisian athletes that had refused to go against Israeli athletes at various games were honored with awards.

International Quds Day is an annual event held on the last Friday of Ramadan initiated by Iran in 1979 to express solidarity with the Palestinians whose territories are under occupation by the Israeli regime.
