UNHCR official: Iran plays an active role for refugees in region

Mashad, Jan 23, IRNA – Head of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) bureau in Mashad, capital of eastern province of Khorasan Razavi, said that Iran has played an active and special role for refugees in the region.
Ms. Linn Mi Lee, at the end of her 4-year tenure in Iran, met with Governor General of the province on Saturday afternoon.
She said that Mashad and Khorasan Razavi province have hosted a noticeable number of Afghan and Iraqi refugees in the past years.
The official called people of the province 'sincere, civilized and hospitable' and added that humanitarian action of the provincial officials are very laudable.
Governor general of the province Mahmoud Salahi, for his part, said that since the early time of Islamic revolution, the province has hosted a great number of Afghan refugees and has tried to prepare facilities for them.
At the end of the farewell meeting, the governor presented an Iranian handicraft as a gift to praise her efforts here in Mashad.
