Central African Republic candidate threatens to reject "rigged elections"

BANGUI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- One of Central African Republic's presidential candidates has threatened to reject "rigged elections" ahead of the Jan. 23 polls, which are considered historic to end the country's years of instability.
The president of the Movement for the Liberation of the People of Central African Republic (MLPC), Martin Ziguele, on Wednesday said he would not accept results of "a rigged election".
"We shall not accept the results if the election is not transparent. If our voters will not vote, if we discover that there are people who have voted several times, we shall consider the election as having been rigged! And if the election is rigged, do not expect MLPC or myself to accept those results," he declared.
Ziguele alluded to the problems associated with the electoral lists which have not yet been displayed due to what he considers as a fault of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI).
"I have always said this electoral commission will put this country into problems," he said, lamenting over the delays in electoral operations, especially the electoral lists which, according to CEI, will be displayed just two days before the election date.
"And what if by mistake many people do not find their name on the electoral list, what shall we do?....There has not been any time allocated for the correction of such abnormally," he said.
In order to limit fraud, the MLPC has decided to be extremely vigilant and has taken precaution by having representatives in all the polling stations on the voting day, he added.
"In any polling station where our agents will tell us that the election was not transparent, we shall systematically contest results of that station. And if this phenomenon is widespread, we shall reject the results of the whole election," he reiterated.
The election campaign will come to an end on Friday midnight before the elections open on Sunday.
