WC 2010: Algeria’s Fennecs arrive in SA

After the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Black Stars of Ghana, South Africa, host country, Les Fennecs (Desert Foxes) of Algeria, Monday, arrived in South Africa for their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign.
he Algerian delegation landed around 8.00am at King Shaka International Airport in Durban.
Drawn in Group C alongside England, the USA and Slovenia, the north Africans travelled to the southern tip of the continent aboard a plane decorated with the colours of the Algerian flag.
After landing, the Algerian team, headed to their base in the San Lameer area, a trip of around 130km from the airport. There they were welcomed at the hotel entrance by local music bands and Zulu dancers.
According to FIFA.com, Les Fennecs travelled to South Africa after rounding off their training camp in Nuremburg, Germany, where they notched up a 1-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates in their last friendly encounter.
All the squad members looked in good shape and high spirits, ready to take on Slovenia in their first group outing on Sunday, June 13 at Polokwane’s Peter Mokoba Stadium. “The competition starts right now,” Algeria ace Karim Ziani told journalists on the team’s arrival.
Coach Rabah Saadane’s men will hold their first open-to-the-public training session on Wednesday, June 9 at 4.00 pm local time at the Ugu Sports Complex.
