Muslim Brotherhood urges UN not to recognize Egypt FM Fahmy

| The Muslim Brotherhood has called on the United Nations not to recognize Egypt’s interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, adding that he is part of a “void” government.
“The Muslim Brotherhood calls upon all states and organizations not to recognize this [interim] government, not to allow [Fahmy] to represent Egypt... And not to allow him to enter the UN,” the Muslim Brotherhood said in a statement Wednesday.
The group also demanded that the UN not allow Fahmy to enter the organization’s headquarters in New York.
Fahmy arrived in New York on Tuesday to attend the 68th annual session of the UN General Assembly.
“This man who went to represent Egypt at the UN as the foreign minister of Egypt is [part of] a void cabinet appointed by a void [interim] president appointed in turn by a defense minister who carried out a military coup,” the Muslim Brotherhood said, referring to Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“[Sisi] kidnapped the legitimate civilian president and has been hiding him from then on from his family...He carried out bloody massacres against the Egyptian people who reject the coup, leading to the killing of about 5,000 peaceful citizens and the injury of about 10,000.”
The Muslim Brotherhood has staged numerous demonstrations it dubbed “The coup does not represent Egypt” since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi in July.
The military-backed interim government, subsequently, clamped down on protesters and killed hundreds of Morsi’s supporters.
More than 2,000 members of the Brotherhood were also detained, among them the movement’s supreme leader, Mohamed Badie.
